This piece began with the words “freedom” and “transformation.” Freedom to be bold and authentic and who we are created to be; free from fear of others’ opinions; transformed by the renewing of mind, to be unashamed and shine brighter. The scriptures from II Corinthians 3:17-18, Jeremiah 31:13-14, John 8:36, and Romans 12:2 make up the base layer of this piece. The Star of David, many bold colors, two hymns: “This is My Father’s World” and “Joy to the World,” covered by vibrant, unique patterns and textures make up the majority of the foundation of the painting. Overlaying the rich layers, a mature, free, Monarch butterfly is set with wings wide open. “Imago” is a Latin word that is the term used for the adult stage of metamorphosis, reflected in this butterfly that’s been transformed and free to fly.
